Which town pages earn rankings for a Lebanese business, which ones Google treats as doorway pages, and how many are worth building.
A page for every town you serve can lift your rankings or sink them. The difference is what sits on each page, not how many pages there are.
Google's spam policies list pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page as doorway abuse. Those policies were tightened in March 2024, and Google reported 45% less low-quality, unoriginal content in results once that work finished rolling out. Cloning one service page with a new town name in the title is riskier today than it was.
We build area pages for clients and for ourselves. Voxire's SEO service in Lebanon has separate pages for five cities, from Beirut to Zahle, each with its own prices and local detail. This post covers which area pages earn rankings, which ones Google treats as doorways, and what a Lebanese business should build first.
Do area pages help a business rank in Lebanon?
Yes, when each page carries something true and specific to that area. A page with live listings in Achrafieh, a branch address in Jounieh or prices for Tripoli gives Google a reason to show it for that town. A page that only swaps the town name gives Google a reason to ignore it.
Lebanon makes that test easy to fail. The country is small and dense: DataReportal puts 89.7% of the population in urban centres and internet use at 91.6% in early 2025. Many service firms cover Greater Beirut and Mount Lebanon from one office. Little changes for them between Hazmieh and Baabda, so their area pages end up identical. A brokerage with listings in both towns has plenty to say about each.
Are location pages doorway pages?
Location pages are not doorway pages by default. They become doorways when they exist only to rank for a service plus a town, then push the visitor toward one generic page. Google's doorway examples include city pages that funnel users to one page and substantially similar pages outside a clear, browsable hierarchy.

Read the last example twice. Substantially similar pages is the clause most Lebanese area pages break. A few hundred words on web design in Jounieh that match the Zahle page word for word, bar the town, are similar by any measure. A footer that lists every town in the country and links each one to such a page adds the funnel.
Our test is plain. Would a customer in that town be glad they landed on this page instead of the home page? If not, it is a doorway, however polished the copy.
What does Google do to doorway pages?
Google can push doorway pages down or drop them from results entirely. Its March 2024 note to site owners says sites that violate the spam policies may rank lower or not appear in results at all, and a manual action is reported in Search Console with a route to request review.
The same update added scaled content abuse to the rules. It covers many pages generated mainly to manipulate rankings, no matter how they were created, whether by automation, by hand or both. Fifty town pages written by an AI tool from one prompt fit that description. So does a plugin that stamps a town list into one template.
The cost rarely stops at the weak pages. Thin pages compete with your real service page for the same searches. They split internal links. They give Google a poor sample of the whole site. Removing or merging them is often the first fix in an audit.
What should each area page contain?
Each area page needs one thing no other page on your site can carry: local inventory, a branch, a named person, local prices or local proof. Then it needs the basics done well, including a unique title, the address or service area in text, and LocalBusiness structured data for any real branch, built on the schema.org LocalBusiness type.

Drawn from Google's spam policies.
On a property listings platform we built this year, the community pages are generated from the inventory itself. Each community page lists the units in that community. Each listing carries its own metadata and structured data. The sitemap and canonical tags keep listings and community pages from competing with each other. When stock changes, the page changes. That is the legitimate version of an area page: it exists because the area has something in it.
Most businesses do not have inventory, so the table below lists what can stand in for it.
| What goes on the page | Where it comes from | Doorway warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Listings, jobs or menu for that area | Your inventory or booking system | The same products on every area page |
| Branch address, hours and phone | Your Business Profile | Head office number everywhere |
| A named agent, doctor or manager | Your team | Our expert team, with no names |
| Local prices or delivery fees | Your price list | One national price list repeated |
| Photos taken in that area | Your own phone | Stock photos of a skyline |
| Reviews from customers in that area | Your reviews, with permission | The same testimonials on every page |

How many area pages should a Lebanese business build?
Build one page per real branch, plus one per area where you have enough local material to fill it. For most Lebanese service firms that means 1 to 5 area pages. A brokerage, marketplace or delivery business with live local inventory can justify many more, because the inventory writes each page.
Start with the towns that already send you enquiries. Your WhatsApp history and your Business Profile performance report show where customers come from. Build those pages first, watch them in Search Console for three months, then decide on the next batch.
Voxire applies the same logic to its city pages, and the prices show it. On our own Beirut SEO page, mid-size retainers run $1,000 to $2,000 a month. On our own Tripoli page, they run $800 to $1,500, because competition there is thinner. A city page that repeated the Beirut page would tell a Tripoli owner nothing.
Should area pages be in Arabic and English?
Yes, if your customers search in Arabic, and the Arabic page should be written for Arabic searches rather than translated line by line. Lebanese place names also travel in several spellings. Achrafieh, Ashrafieh and الأشرفية are one neighbourhood, and the page should use the forms your customers type.
Put the variants where people read them: in the body text and the address, never in a hidden keyword list. Pick one spelling for the title and the URL. Keep it identical on the page, the Business Profile and your directory listings. Our guide to local citations and directory listings in Lebanon covers that consistency, and Arabic SEO for Lebanese websites covers the Arabic side.
Link the two language versions to each other. Google's guide to localized versions shows how to mark an Arabic and an English page as the same content for different readers.
Do area pages get you into the Google Maps pack?
No, area pages alone will not put you in the map pack. Map results come from your Business Profile, and Google ranks them on relevance, distance and prominence. A website page about Byblos does not move your business closer to a searcher standing in Byblos.
The profile rules are stricter than most owners expect. Google allows one profile per location with its own staff, and a service area should stay within about 2 hours of driving from the base. A virtual office or a relative's flat in another town does not count. Area pages support a real profile. They cannot replace one. Our Business Profile playbook for Lebanese businesses covers the setup.
What should you actually do this week?
List every area page on your site, then keep, merge or fill each one. Keep a page only if it holds something unique to that area. Merge the rest into one service page that names the areas you cover, and redirect the old addresses to it.
- Export your area pages from the sitemap or your content system.
- Next to each, write the one thing on it that no other page has. A blank means merge.
- Redirect merged pages to the main service page. Google's guide to duplicate URLs explains how redirects and canonical tags tell it which address to keep.
- For the pages you keep, add the branch, the people and the local proof from the table above.
- Check that each kept page matches its Business Profile on name, address, phone and hours.
If you want help with it, Voxire's SEO retainers in Lebanon start at $600 a month.
