Google shows its own Top sights carousel and booking module above Tripadvisor for things to do in Jounieh, and that is where a local operator wins bookings without paying 25% commission.
A paragliding club in Jounieh will not outrank Tripadvisor for "things to do in Jounieh", and it should stop trying. The results page for that query has three layers, and only one of them is a list of blue links. The other two belong to Google: a map with a "Top sights" carousel, and a booking module that pulls products and prices straight from operators.
That changes the job. A dive centre, a cable car, a boat trip or an escape room does not need the first organic result. It needs a card in the carousel, a bookable product in Google's module, and a listing on the marketplaces that feed Tripadvisor and Expedia. Each of those has a different cost. The gap between them is wider than most owners assume.
What does the "things to do in Jounieh" results page show?
Google shows a "Top sights in Jounieh" map and carousel first, then Tripadvisor, Expedia and GetYourGuide lists. When we searched from Lebanon this week, the carousel held both cable cars, a paragliding club and a scuba operator. Each card carried a star rating and a review count, and all of it sat above every organic result on the page.

The organic results below the carousel are aggregators: Tripadvisor, Expedia, GetYourGuide, Trip.com and a handful of travel blogs. Not one of them is a Jounieh business. That is normal for a destination query. It also tells you where the bookings are won: inside the carousel and inside the aggregators, not in a ranking fight against them.
Look at who made the carousel. The scuba operator is a small business with a short review history, sitting beside a cable car that has been running for decades. It earned the card with a complete profile, an accurate category and strong ratings. Size had little to do with it.
What are Google things to do?
Things to do is Google's free listing and ad program for tours, attractions and activities. According to Google Ads Help, partners can show their inventory through free listings or through ads, and pay only when someone clicks an ad. Admission tickets qualify as well as guided tours, which covers most of what Jounieh sells to visitors.
It is a separate thing from the Top sights carousel, and owners often confuse the two. The carousel is built from places that exist in Google Maps, so a business with no verified profile cannot appear in it. Things to do adds a layer on top: actual products, with prices and a booking button, attached to that place.
How does Google Things to Do work?
Operators send Google a feed of products and prices, usually through a booking system approved as a connectivity partner. Google's Actions Center overview describes four modules: ads, admission tickets that compare official prices with resellers, experiences tied to a landmark, and an operator booking module shown on the business's own profile.
The operator module is the one that matters for a Jounieh business. It puts your own tours on your own Google profile, and the same tours sold through resellers appear beside them. Google Ads Help says an individual operator, or a reservation system representing fewer than 100 operators, should connect through a connectivity partner rather than integrate directly.
In practice your booking software decides whether you can be listed at all. Tour platforms such as Bókun, FareHarbor, Rezgo and Peek Pro sell this connection, and Peek Pro's guide confirms the free listings are available to operators on its system. A dive centre that takes bookings by WhatsApp and a notebook has no feed to send. That is the first gap we see on Jounieh accounts.
Is Google Things to Do free for a Jounieh operator?
Yes: the organic listing costs 0%, while marketplaces take 20% to 30% of every booking. Google lists for free and charges only for optional ads, per Google Ads Help. The Samba commission comparison puts Viator and GetYourGuide at 20% to 30%, typically 25%, and Airbnb Experiences at a flat 20%.

| Channel | Cost to the operator | What it needs | Where the booking appears |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Free | Verified profile, photos, reviews | Maps, local pack, Top sights |
| Google Things to do, free listing | 0% commission | Booking system with a Google connection | Results page and Maps |
| Google Things to do ads | Pay per click | Same feed plus a Google Ads account | Above the free listings |
| Tripadvisor listing | Free, bookings run through Viator | Claimed listing, Viator for booking | Tripadvisor |
| Viator | 20% to 30%, typically 25% | Supplier account | Viator, Tripadvisor, Expedia |
| GetYourGuide | 20% to 30%, set by country | Supplier account | GetYourGuide, Expedia |
| Airbnb Experiences | 20% flat | Host approval | Airbnb |

Read the Tripadvisor row twice. Its free business listing shows reviews but takes no bookings, and every booking goes through Viator at Viator's rate, according to Samba. Expedia sources its tours from Viator and GetYourGuide too. So two supplier accounts reach most of the aggregators on page one. You do not need seven.
Why does a Jounieh business not appear in Top sights?
Usually because its Google Business Profile is unverified or thin on reviews. Google's local ranking help page names three factors, relevance, distance and prominence, and says more reviews and positive ratings can help a business's local ranking. Prominence is where small operators lose, and it is the factor an owner can move fastest.
What we fix first on a Jounieh profile is the primary category. Look at the screenshot again: Google files one operator as a "SCUBA tour agency" and another as a "Diving center". Those are different categories, and they match different searches. A tour sold as an experience should sit under the category a tourist would search for, not the one the owner picked during setup.
Then photos taken on site, opening hours that change with the season, and a review request built into the booking confirmation. A tourist who just came off a boat will leave a review that evening if you ask. A week later, they will not. Our Google Business Profile guide for Lebanon walks through the setup screen by screen.
Should you write your own "things to do in Jounieh" guide?
Yes, if it sells something: a guide page can rank for the narrow searches that aggregators answer badly. Google lists "things to do in Jounieh at night", "free things to do in Jounieh" and "Jounieh souk" as related searches under the main query. A dive centre can own "diving in Jounieh". A boat operator can own "Jounieh bay boat trip".
Those pages need to be written for the visitor, not for the owner. Answer the questions a tourist asks before booking: how to get there from Beirut, what to bring, what happens if the sea is rough, and what it costs. Put the booking widget on the page, not a contact form. Our notes on tour operator websites in Lebanon cover what travellers click once they land.
Language is the other decision. Lebanon had 5.38 million internet users at the end of 2025, 91.8 percent of the population, according to DataReportal. Jounieh's visitors split three ways: diaspora families searching in English, French-speaking guests from Europe and Canada, and local weekend trips searched in Arabic. Our approach for Jounieh clients is English first, then French where booking records show French-speaking guests, then Arabic for the local and Gulf summer market. A translated copy of the English page rarely ranks; each version needs its own keyword research.
How much does tourism SEO cost in Jounieh?
Voxire's own published SEO retainers in Jounieh start at $600 a month, and tourism businesses on competitive Mount Lebanon keywords typically invest $1,000 to $2,000 a month. Those are our own figures, listed on our Jounieh SEO page. The retainer covers the profile, the guide pages, the review system and the local citations that build prominence.
The Google Things to do connection is not part of that bill. It comes through your booking software subscription, and we help you choose one that has the connection. What the retainer competes with is commission. At the typical 25% rate in the Samba guide, forty $100 bookings a month on Viator cost $1,000 in fees. Moving a share of those guests to your own Google listing is how the retainer pays for itself.
What should you actually do this week?
Start with the search itself, then fix the profile, then the booking software, in that order. The profile costs nothing and moves fastest. The booking connection takes a week or two to set up. The guide pages and the French version are a quarter's work, so they come last, once the free surfaces are already sending you guests.
- Search "things to do in Jounieh" and "[your activity] Jounieh" on a phone, and note who holds each carousel card.
- Open your Google Business Profile and check the primary category, seasonal hours and photos.
- Ask your booking software provider whether it connects to Google Things to do. If it does not, shortlist one that does.
- Claim your Tripadvisor listing, then decide whether one Viator or GetYourGuide account is worth its typical 25% commission (Samba) on bookings you would not otherwise get.
- Add a review request to every booking confirmation, sent the same evening.
