Beirut Google Business Verification: Video vs Postcard

Beirut Google Business Verification: Video vs Postcard

Postcards rarely reach Beirut addresses, so the verification method you choose decides whether your business shows on Google Maps this week or next month.

A Beirut shop that requests a Google postcard today is betting on a letter that may never arrive. Google's own help page says most postcard codes arrive within 14 days and expire after 30, and Lebanese owners have opened threads in Google's community titled "I can't verify my business by post since mail is not reaching us in Lebanon". The method you pick decides whether you are on Maps this week or next month.

The stakes are not small. DataReportal counted 5.38 million internet users in Lebanon at the end of 2025, 91.8 percent of the population, and the ones looking for a pharmacy, a dentist or a shawarma place near Hamra start on Google Maps. An unverified profile cannot edit its hours, answer reviews or fix a wrong pin. Somebody else can suggest edits to it instead.

How long does Google take to approve a business?

Google says verification reviews take up to 5 business days after you finish the verification steps, per its Business Profile help page. Phone, SMS and video methods land inside that window. A postcard adds up to 14 days of mail before the review even starts, which is why Beirut owners who choose it often wait three weeks or more.

Two cases skip the wait entirely. Google verifies instantly when the website on the profile is already verified in Search Console under the same account, and when a chain uses bulk verification. If your site is live, add it to Search Console before you claim the profile. It costs nothing and sometimes removes the whole process.

Which verification method should a Beirut business choose?

Take video recording whenever Google offers it, because it needs no mail and Google itself recommends it. You cannot pick freely: Google assigns the methods by business type, region and public info. Phone or SMS is the next best, and the postcard should be your last resort.

When we set up a profile for a Beirut client, we claim it from the owner's own Google account, connect the site in Search Console first, and plan the video before anyone taps record. The owner keeps primary ownership. We are added as a manager after verification, which is the order Google's help page describes for third parties.

What should you film in a Google verification video in Beirut?

Film three things in one unbroken take of at least 30 seconds: where you are, that the business exists, and that you control it. Those are Google's three video requirements. In Beirut, location is the hard part, because few buildings show a street number a reviewer can read.

Here is the shot list we use for a storefront in Achrafieh, Hamra or Mar Mikhael:

  • Outside, wide. The street sign if one exists, the building name plate, and two neighbouring shops or a known landmark such as a church, a pharmacy or a bank branch.
  • The sign. Your permanent sign, with the name exactly as it appears on the profile. A banner or a printed sheet in the window does not count.
  • The door. Walk from the street to your entrance without cutting, so the reviewer sees the sign and the premises are the same place.
  • Inside, management proof. Open the cash drawer, log into the POS, unlock the stockroom or show the kitchen. Google lists exactly these examples.
  • Paperwork, if needed. An invoice or utility bill in the business name, with tax numbers and bank details kept out of frame.

Keep other people's faces out of the shot. Google rejects videos that show them, and it rejects anything edited or pre-recorded. A rejected video comes back as a "Review issues" notice listing what was missing, such as "Business name not visible on storefront". Fix that one thing and record the full sequence again.

Why isn't Google verifying my business?

Google usually refuses because something on the profile disagrees with what the reviewer can see. The most common Beirut mismatches are a profile name that differs from the sign, a pin dropped on the wrong building, and a storefront listing without permanent signage. Each one breaks a rule in Google's guidelines for representing your business.

The name rule catches many Lebanese shops. Google bans repeating the same name in two scripts, even when the sign shows it in Arabic and English. Pick the version customers search for and use that one. Adding "Beirut" or "best" to the name is also keyword stuffing and can get a verified profile suspended later.

The address rule is gentler than people expect. When an address has no street number, Google lets you pin the location directly on the map, and it allows cross-streets and landmarks where the official address does not pinpoint the business. Write "Facing Sassine Square, Ground floor" rather than inventing a number. Do not use a P.O. box, a virtual office or a co-working desk without staffed signage; all three are ineligible.

Delivery-only kitchens are a separate trap. A cloud kitchen with no pickup must hide its address and list service areas instead, or the profile fails review for showing a location customers cannot visit.

Should a home-based business list its address?

No. If you do not receive customers at the address, Google requires you to hide it and set a service area instead. That covers a photographer, a caterer or an AC technician working from an apartment in Dekwaneh. You can name up to 20 service areas, and the whole area should sit within about 2 hours of driving from your base.

Service-area businesses can still verify by video. Google asks them to film nearby street signs or landmarks, their tools or branded vehicle, and something only the owner controls, such as unlocking a branded van. For a Lebanese freelancer, a printed invoice in the business name usually completes the proof.

How will I know when my Google Business Profile is verified?

Google sends a confirmation email to the account that owns the profile, and the "Get verified" button disappears from the dashboard. That is the signal, per Google's verification steps. If the button comes back days later, verification did not complete and you need to try again.

Two other messages matter. "Review issues" means a video was rejected and Google is telling you what to add. A request for additional information usually follows an edit to the name, address or category, which triggers re-verification. Make those edits deliberately, and never during a postcard wait: editing the name or address voids the code already in the mail.

What should you actually do this week?

Spend one hour on four fixes: Search Console, business type, profile name and a video route. Verify your website first, decide storefront or service area, and make the name match your sign. Most Beirut profiles that sit unverified for months fail on one of those four, not on Google's queue.

Then open the profile on your phone at the shop, during your listed hours, and take the video option if Google offers it. If only the postcard appears, request it once and change nothing on the profile until the code arrives or expires. When it is verified, the work moves on to reviews, photos and categories, which our Google Business Profile playbook for Lebanese businesses covers step by step. Bilingual listings have their own rules, set out in our Arabic Google Business Profile guide for MENA.
